Yes Virginia, There Is An America
Each week on my radio show I am always pointing out to my listeners how our schools in America are either indoctrinating young minds to the left, teaching history revisionism about our Constitution and conservative presidents. Even in some schools teaching Sharia. The pitfalls of Common Core, the over sensitive reactions to half eaten Pop-Tarts, T-shirts, Key chains. The banning of wearing anything with the American flag on it on certain days, the banning of praying, or reading the Bible on a student's free time. The list goes on and on with no shortage of news daily. It is enough to make one think Ronald Reagan is correct when he said "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free".
However, every now and then the best of America shines through the fog of all the negatives in our land. Tussing Elementary School is such a shining example of that premise. In 2009 a music school teacher named Michael Souders wrote a song for his 3rd grade class to perform for a school tribute for Veteran's Day. The song was titled "Thank You Soldiers". The song (Video on Youtube), went viral. Proving that the Americans that still believe this is an exceptional country was starved for such a positive song from our schools. The response this song generated was snowballed from one song to many. Be it Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and even a song honoring the victims at Sandy Hook, these children, comprised of either 3rd or 4th graders, sing their hearts out with and American Pride so rarely seen these days.
Many of the students themselves having either Mothers or Fathers in the service. The songs are song not as an assignment, but a personal and collective joy from the children. To hear a child praise and thank a soldier, sing about pride for our nation, is so heart warming to the listener. It gives me positive hope that the trajectory that this country has taken over the past 5 or 6 years can be reversed to once again make all, not half, of our citizens to love America the way it deserves to be loved.
We have heard a billion times our children are our future. We hear it so much, because it is true. They deserved to be educated with common sense math, not Common Core math. They deserve to have our founding fathers treated with respect in our history books, and not like racists that is being taught in some states. They deserve to learn why America is an exceptional country. That no other country in the world, nor in the history of the world has ever had a Constitution like ours, and that is why we are called "The Great Experiment".
Recently, it has been a rough road for our country. Too many negative events, change, policies, stories, that one can feel overwhelmed by it all. Tussing Elementary School, along with it's amazing music teacher Michael Souders reminds us what American can be, and is at it's core. Patriotic, Free, and blessed. God has blessed America, and he certainly has blessed us to have children like these.
